NDIS Overview

What is the NDIS?

The NDIS is a new way of providing disability support that takes a lifetime approach.

Can I access the NDIS?

You can access the NDIS depending on your age, residency and disability.

My first plan

Your first plan is the start of a lifelong relationship with the NDIS.

Starting my plan

You can choose the providers you want. Your existing provider may need to continue to deliver some support initially.

Reviewing my plan

NDIS will review your plan with you every 12 months to make sure you’re getting the support you need.

My NDIS Pathway

Understanding your Plan and Supports

NDIS participants can choose how to manage the funding for the supports in their plan. When meeting with a NDIS planner to develop a plan, you will need to decide which plan management option is right for you. You may even discuss self-managing budgets in your plan.

No matter which option is chosen for the payment of providers, you remain in control of which providers you select and when and how your supports are delivered.

Finding and engaging providers

The National Disability Insurance Agency has developed a number of resources to assist participants when choosing a provider or employing a support worker. It is important to choose the provider or providers which are right for you.

Make sure you understand your plan and supports and have decided whether you are going to self-manage the budgets in your plan before you start choosing providers.
